EN   For as long as I can remember shopping was an activity enjoyed together with my mom, rather than with friends. While I am a spur of moment shopper, just like my mom was,  I have noticed that subconsciously I'm following certain rules when shopping, rules my mom thought me over the years.

First of all, invest in your key pieces. You have to have your uniform down, is it key pieces like blazers and pants or more like a silhouette, which makes getting ready in the morning so much easier. You grab a key piece and work around that. Also, when it is in prime quality, it will last you a lifetime. Ok, more like more than few years, but you get the deal. For example, today I wore a jacket that my mom was wearing when she was expecting me (more than 20 years ago!), and this winter I will walk in my beloved knee height boots for the sixth year. Boy, those pieces were hella expensive, but in the long run, think on a cost per wear level.

Another thing I picked up is building on a wardrobe that will fit any occasion or outing, rather than being mesmerized by all the trends and as a result having a wardrobe that will work fine for a year or two tops and a trendy Instagram picture. We all have a work and weekend wardrobe down, but think about the rush you get when you understand you have nothing to wear to a black tie party that takes place tomorrow. That said, you have to have at least one stand out dress or a combo that will save you in situations like these!

Talking more about those trends - don't follow them! If you feel they don't work for you, they probably never will. But do pick up the ones that accent your style and personality. Because at the end of the day it's not about what you are wearing, but how you wear the clothing you carry. It is confidence that mostly comes together with a dash of glamour feeling that will set you apart and will make you always look good. And if you suffer from fashion FOMO, stick trough it, after a while there is gonna be a new trend on the rise tailored just for you.

Buy globally! For one, you will get the best garments for an incredible price point if you do the research before travelling and find out what are the signature items of your destination. And second, memories! Also - exclusivity that comes with a reduced price tag - you probably won't meet another person wearing the same boots in your home town.

And the most fun of the rules - if you really like something, just buy it. But there is a catch - you can buy it only if you can wear the piece on the spot. For example, I fall hard for beautiful shoes, and if I find a pair that I love and I can wear it on the spot and it works with the outfit I already have on, I'm buying. In that way I'm sure the pair will work with my wardrobe and the shoes will be properly loved - by wearing non stop.

While this sounds boring with all the invest in your key pieces and don't do trends (how fashion blogger of me), I have noticed that this has ensured me working on my style and wardrobe that will last and won't cause a headache. Also, it is more fun to play in your wardrobe with pieces you love and can't wait to wear, than with those that are out of fashion. So, thanks mom! I think I'm doing quite good on the fashion front thanks to you.

LV   Kopš sevi atceros, vienmēr labprātāk esmu iepirkusies kopā ar mammu, nevis ar draudzenēm. Arī šobrīd, kad nu to daru viena, nepamet sajūta, ka tomēr to joprojām darām divatā pavisam vienkārša iemesla dēļ - zemapziņā esmu iemācījusies sekot lieliskiem noteikumiem, ko neviļus man mamma ir iemācījusi.

To ņemot vērā, ja redzi lielisku melnu kleitu vai kādu komplektu, kurš tev līdzīgos gadījumos noderēs - iekļauj to savā garderobē.

Un personīgi man mīļākais noteikums - ja tev kaut kas tiešām patīk, nopērc to!

Šķiet, ka šajā dzīves frontē man veicas!

  1. Patiešām ir vērts ieguldīt vienās labas kvalitātes ādas balerīnās, ar ko staigāt ikdienā, nevis pirkt n-tos papēžus, lai smuki stāv kastē. Tāpat ar somām. :) ļoti skaists koptēls, nu ļoti, ļoti.

  2. Your pictures are so gorgeous- and so is your advice! I'm an impulse buyer too but I'm getting better at making decisions based on when I'll wear something and what for. I've also gotten better at investing in key pieces and wearing them every day! Great advice, thanks for sharing :)

  5. Great tips. I tend to buy when I really like something. My wardrobe is a mishmash of things because I just don't follow one style or trend instead buy things I feel comfortable in and really enjoy having :)

  6. I loved this post, I try to stick by a set of rules when shopping for clothes as well. Otherwise I just buy way too many things I do not need.

But damn girl, that outfit you're wearing in this post is so amazing! I love every single part of this!
